MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Clifton Village Nursery is a registered charity and is run by a Voluntary Management Committee made up of parents and parents of former nursery attendees.

As a charity, the nursery does not operate to make a profit, and all surpluses generated go towards improving the equipment and environment and towards enhancing the stability of the nursery. Fundraising is an integral part of nursery life and allows us to supplement the income received from the Local Authority.

The staff members are extremely well qualified and experienced childcare practitioners with a total of 50 years experience between them!

A small committee of volunteers runs the nursery meeting approximately once a term during the school year. They employ staff to run the sessions; fundraise; arrange trips and develop day-to-day policies.

The committee is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting, which is usually held during September each year, new members are always welcome as "many hands make light work!"

Thinking about joining the nursery Committee?

What is involved?

The current committee members will be happy to tell you in more detail about how you can become involved. See us at the Nursery or contact us via email and we will be very happy to get in touch.

There are lots of ways you can contribute to the committee and you can choose to give as much or as little time as you can spare. The good thing is you don't need any experience to make a difference.

The committee is responsible for the overall management and smooth-running of the nursery. This can mean anything from organising a summer fundraising event, helping to maintain our building, to negotiating with a supplier. The committee is the employer of staff in the nursery so has overall responsibility for recruiting, training and developing staff, paying their salaries, and managing their contracts of employment.

The committee also has responsibility for things like developing a business plan, managing the daily accounts and, working with staff, ensuring the nursery follows health and safety, risk assessment, insurance and first aid guidance and procedures.

What you can choose to do

A lot of the work committees do is fun – building new partnerships with other parents and professionals, coming up with new fundraising ideas, getting exciting plans off the ground but there are some regular jobs too. The three main roles on the committee are chair, treasurer and secretary. The tasks can be shared between different parents so all the work need not fall on any one person. The nursery may have a budget for specific tasks to be done by paid professionals, for example the monthly accounts. However, overall responsibility for these areas rests with the committee.

Every year, as the children move on so do our parents. We are always happy to have new faces join the committee. However we do appreciate that sometimes parents simply want to help on an as-needed basis, so we have a special team of Committed Parents who help out when they can as needed. Often this tends to be in the run up to a fundraising event where it all gets very hectic and exciting!

What our parents are saying

I wouldn't send my children anywhere else after the experience I have had there. It really is an amazing community which feels like an extension of our family!
